PROJECT OVERVIEW
The contemplative garden at Halifax Hospice was designed to create a beautiful outdoor space for guests, family and staff as a refuge during end of life care. Outside! Planning & Design Studio designed the landscape plan, working closely with Anne Sinclair Architects and the design team to ensure a seamless integration of indoor & outdoor experiences. Trim, the landscape contractor, did an amazing job with the installation.
With thoughtful attention to detail, Outside! combined native & ornamental plantings with existing mature trees and custom site furnishings. Integral to the design was the donation of a stunning sculpture by the family of late artist, Ian Day Startup, which forms the focal point of the garden. A water fountain surrounded by Japanese maple and forest grass creates a backdrop of sound allowing private conversations throughout the space.
The garden is a tribute to the love and support offered by family, friends and the skilled medical professionals who help others pass on from this life with dignity.
