CSLA CALLS FOR VOLUNTEERS TO JOIN THE CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION TASK FORCE
The CSLA Board of Directors has approved the creation of a Climate Change Adaptation Task Force to further lead, develop and implement the action plan. The task force, working alongside the CSLA Executive Director, will be involved in the following short and long-term initiatives:
• Contributing to the CSLA Climate Change Adaptation web page
• Coordinating interdisciplinary and inter-professional workshop(s) and roundtable(s) on climate change adaptation
• Developing a CSLA Policy on Climate Change
• Building linkages with academia to develop/communicate research for use by members to improve local and national understanding of the scope of impacts associated with a changing climate, and to develop new approaches in planning and design that better prepare Canadian society to accommodate to these impending changes
• Developing a Landscape Architects Climate Change Action Plan – a tool box of resources enabling LAs to plan for and more variable and extreme weather in their designs.
• Ensuring CSLA representatives participate in government/research/academic committees on climate change
• Coordinating efforts whenever possible with CIP, Engineers Canada, Architecture Canada and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities
• Establishing a risk procedure/protocol to assess the vulnerability of a particular landscape to current and future climate risks and adaptation strategies.
The task force will meet monthly by teleconference. If you are interested in participating, contact Michelle Legault, CSLA Executive Director, at executive-director@csla-aapc.ca
