Invitation for Feedback on New Draft Edition of CSA Z614 Children’s Playgrounds and Equipment

06/26/2019

There is a new draft edition of CSA Z614 Children’s playgrounds and equipment, developed by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Technical Committee on Children’s Playspaces. The draft is now available for a 60-day Public Review ending on AUGUST 18, 2019. It is very important that key playground stakeholders review the document and submit comments and suggested corrections before publication. Interested parties can access the draft at the following link: https://publicreview.csa.ca/Home/Category/011. You can comment directly online.

In this new edition, the Technical Committee has made changes or additions in a number of areas. The Committee added a clause and supporting Annex J to allow for new play components that may not specifically fit into the prescriptive play component types listed in this Standard. The Committee also made changes to user age groups to account for children of different abilities and expanded upon the developmental needs of children.

Additional changes were made to climbing net structures to harmonize with the ASTM F1487. A new test procedure was added to determine elevated surface compliance. Annex H was updated to improve clarity and changes were made to the elevated component counts. Annex G’s chart on plants to avoid was updated as well. Furthermore, the Committee has also added a new Annex on Thermal Comfort.

A one-time registration is required if you have not been to the site before.
