Architecture49 is currently looking for a Landscape Architect with experience in landscape architectural design and project management, to join our national Landscape / Urban Design team in our Halifax office.

A full member of a CSLA or ASLA component association is preferred. Our ideal candidates will have some connection to Atlantic Canada, and/or are strongly interested in building a life and professional capacity, in one of the most inspiring landscapes in the country.


The Landscape Architect is responsible for all aspects of landscape architectural project delivery. This includes writing fee proposals , developing design concepts, conducting research and analysis, inventory and mapping, producing design reports, facilitating community engagement, delivering presentations to clients and stakeholders, producing working drawing packages, coordinating with other professional consultants, and performing contract administration tasks. Manages the financial aspect of the project including planning, scheduling, forecasting and staffing and working with accounting to achieve the desired results.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to be proactive and self-motivated as part of multidisciplinary creative teams. Ultimately, the candidates will work with a team of designers from different professions on projects in all A49 practice sectors especially Healthcare, Education and Sports/Recreation sector. As a multidisciplinary Canadian national firm, some projects will support the work of other teams from other A49 offices.

The Landscape Architect will report directly to the National Practice Leader of Landscape Architecture as well as to the Halifax office Principal for regional office matters. They will directly manage projects and help oversee junior landscape architects in our national team eventually working towards regional manager status in the firm.   • Proficiency in site grading, planting design, specification writing, construction detailing, cost estimating, and community consultation are considered essential. We are looking for someone with extraordinary design, spoken, and written communication skills and the ability to fully implement a creative vision.
  • Working both individually and with multiple project teams from different regions in a multi-disciplinary office, with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Candidates should be proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat), and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience with Revit, Autodesk Civil 3D, Rhino, Sketchup, Lumion, and ArcGIS are an asset.


  • Education:  Degree in landscape architecture (BLA/MLA).
  • Experience:  5+ years of experience working as a Landscape architect in a Landscape Architectural consulting firm or Architecture Practice within North America.
  • Character:  Candidates must demonstrate the following:  passion for the natural and built environments, critical thought, personal organization, accountability, self-motivation, collaboration, attention to detail, written and spoken English proficiency, and altruistic disposition.
  • Technical Awareness: Proven experience in construction design and construction administration is an asset including knowledge in technical aspects of landscape architecture (construction detailing, planting, grading and drainage, storm water management, quantity surveying and estimating and construction specifications).
  • Full membership in a CSLA or ASLA component association is preferred.
  • Bilingualism (French and English, written and spoken) would be an asset.
  • Candidates must be currently eligible to work in Canada and hold a valid driver’s license.
